Hills, drives and steep gardens
Sevenoaks sits on a ridge, and a lot of the surrounding villages, Otford, Kemsing, Seal and Westerham, are on slopes too. Plenty of gardens fall away from the house, or climb up behind it. That is where steps and ramps stop being a luxury and become the only safe way to get around the garden.
We pour concrete steps and ramps on site, shuttered to your measurements.
- Concrete steps with an even rise and going
- Ramps to accessible gradients for wheelchair or mobility access
- Non-slip finish, reinforced
- Shed and garage bases on levelled ground
- Excavation, cut and fill on sloping gardens
- Clearance and waste removal
Steps and ramps done properly
A step that is a few millimetres off will trip somebody, so the formwork has to be level and square, and the rise and going consistent from top to bottom. We set it out carefully, reinforce the concrete and finish it with a non-slip surface.
For mobility access, tell us who it is for and what gradient you are working to. We build ramps to accessible gradients, and we will say plainly if the space available is too tight for a gentle slope.
Larger plots and long drives
Housing in and around Sevenoaks ranges from Victorian terraces and villas in the town to large detached houses on big plots, many with long driveways and gates. Wider gates mean we can often bring a 1.5T to 3T machine in, while the 0.8T micro digger covers the narrow passages.
On a long drive, a tracked dumper saves a lot of time and wear on the lawn, because it moves spoil and concrete without a vehicle having to reverse all the way up.
Many of the larger gardens round here have mature trees and hedges close to where a base or path would go. Roots matter when we dig, so we cut back and remove what is in the way and work around anything that should stay. Tell us which trees are protected or have a preservation order, if you know, and we will plan the dig around them.
Ground and what we do about it
Parts of Kent are chalk and others are clay, and the ground changes quickly from place to place. We do not guess per property. We look at your photos and then check the ground when we dig, and set the sub-base to suit.
On a slope, water is the issue. We think about where it runs when we set the levels, so a new base or path does not turn the low end of the garden into a puddle.
Price, timing and nearby areas
Send a photo of the area, a photo of the access and a rough size to WhatsApp. We reply with a guide price, usually within 30 minutes during working hours, then confirm a fixed price after checking the site. There is no deposit on standard domestic jobs.
Sevenoaks is connected by the A21 and the A25, and the M25 runs close by. If a skip or vehicle needs to go on the road, a council permit may be needed, and we will tell you. We also cover Westerham, Edenbridge, Swanley and Tonbridge.

Questions
Can you build a ramp for wheelchair access?
Yes. We build ramps to accessible gradients, shuttered and poured on site. Send a photo and the height difference and we will advise.
My garden is on a steep slope. Can you build a shed base on it?
Usually yes. We cut and fill to make a level platform and compact the sub-base before the concrete goes in. We check your photos first.
Do you work in villages like Otford and Westerham?
Yes. We cover Sevenoaks and the surrounding villages. Send your postcode and a photo to confirm.
Are the steps slippery when wet?
We finish them with a non-slip surface and reinforce them, so they are built for outdoor use.
