What we take down
We take out the structures and hard surfaces that stand in the way of a new base, patio or extension.
Tell us what is attached to the structure, such as lighting, water or a satellite dish bracket, and whether it shares a wall or fence with a neighbour. We can usually give a guide price from photos, then confirm it once we have seen the site.
- Rotten or damaged garden sheds and outbuildings
- Garden walls and brick structures
- Old concrete bases, slabs and paths
- Patios and stone hardstanding
- Small garages and lean-tos, subject to survey
Breaking out concrete properly
Old concrete is heavier and thicker than it looks. A slab laid by a previous owner can be 150mm or more, sometimes with mesh or bar in it. Doing it by hand with a sledgehammer takes days and wrecks your back.
Our hydraulic breaker on a mini digger gets through slabs and patios far faster than hand tools. The broken concrete is loaded straight into the dumper, so there is no pile of rubble left sitting in the garden.
Asbestos checks come first
Older garages, shed roofs and outbuildings sometimes contain asbestos, especially corrugated roof sheets and soffit boards from before the 2000s. We carry out asbestos checks before we start. If we suspect it, we stop and tell you, because suspect material needs specialist handling and testing before it is disturbed. We do not remove asbestos ourselves.
How the job works
Send photos of the structure from a few angles, plus the access. We give a guide price on WhatsApp and confirm after a site visit. On the day we strip the contents out if needed, take the structure down in a safe order, break out any base, and load everything onto the dumper and away.
If you want a new shed base poured where the old one was, we can level the ground and pour it as part of the same job, so you are not paying for two sets of trades.
Preparing the site, and what bigger outbuildings involve
Empty the shed if you can. Tell us if there are any pipes, cables or lighting fed from the house. Check the position of fences and neighbouring walls; if the old shed is attached to a boundary wall or shared fence, mention it so we can plan the work. Keep children and pets away from the area while we work.
A typical garden shed comes apart quickly once it is empty, but the base underneath often takes longer than the building itself. Timber floor bearers may be rotten and full of insects, and concrete slabs are often thicker than they look. We allow for both when we quote.
Larger outbuildings, brick garages and anything joined to the house are different. They can involve party walls, services and structural supports, and you may need approval before they come down. Send photos and we will tell you honestly whether it is a job we can take on, or one that needs a surveyor or a specialist demolition firm first.
Taking down an outbuilding sometimes exposes damage to a neighbouring fence or wall. We point out anything we notice, so it is not a surprise afterwards.
Once the structure is down we can leave the ground bare, level it, or go straight into digging out for whatever replaces it. Say which you want when you ask for a price.

Questions
Can you remove an old concrete base?
Yes. We break it out with a hydraulic breaker on a mini digger, load the pieces and take them away. Send the approximate size and thickness if you know it.
Do you remove asbestos?
No. We carry out asbestos checks before we start. If we suspect it, we stop and tell you, as it needs specialist testing and removal.
How long does it take to remove a shed?
A standard timber shed is often cleared in a few hours. Concrete bases, brick structures and awkward access add time. We say what to expect when we quote.
Is waste disposal included?
Yes. Rubble, timber and shed waste are loaded and removed as part of the quote. Nothing is left on site.
