Digger hire, with the driver included
This is operated hire. You are not renting a machine and finding out how to use it. A CPCS-carded driver comes with the digger, runs it all day and knows how to dig without damaging fences, patios or the lawn you wanted to keep.
Using a trained driver also keeps site safety in hand. Underground services, uneven ground and overhead lines are real hazards, and an experienced operator watches for them as part of the job.
The quote covers the machine, the driver and a dumper where the job needs one, with the spoil taken off site. Send photos and a description and we will tell you which size of kit makes sense and roughly how long the work will take.
Which machine fits
We choose the machine to match your access and the work, not the other way round.
- 0.8T micro digger for standard garden gates and side passages
- 1.5T to 3T mini diggers for shed bases, footings, levelling and clearance
- 5T digger for larger excavations, driveways and muck-away
- Compact tracked dumpers to move spoil and concrete through tight access
- Hydraulic breaker for concrete, stone and brick
Tight access and small gardens
The smallest kit needs around 80cm of clear width, which covers many London side gates. Measure at the narrowest point: gate posts, a drainpipe or a meter box can take off several centimetres.
If your gap is under 80cm, send the measurement and a photo. We can sometimes still manage with smaller kit or by barrowing, but hand work costs more time and we will explain that before you commit.
What diggers are used for
Hiring a digger with a driver makes sense wherever it saves days of hand digging. That includes trenches for drainage and foundations, dig-outs for patios and driveways, removing old sheds and concrete with the breaker, clearing overgrown gardens and levelling sloping ground.
A tracked dumper stops barrows of spoil churning your garden into mud. It carries material between the work area and the skip or lorry, and it can carry concrete the other way.
Before the machine arrives and on the day
Tell us what lies under the ground if you know: drains, cables, water pipes, old foundations. Mark any sprinkler systems or soakaways. Move cars, bins and garden furniture clear of the access route. Take photos of the work area and the way in, as it makes the quote quicker and more accurate.
The driver arrives with the digger and dumper, walks the site with you and agrees what is being dug, where the spoil goes and what must be left alone. Then they get on with it. You do not need to supervise, but it helps if you are around at the start and end of the day.
If the plan changes once the ground is open, for example you hit an old foundation or a drain, the driver will stop and talk it through rather than carry on. That is cheaper than repairing a broken pipe.
When the work is done the driver loads the last of the spoil, brushes down the access route and checks the site with you before leaving.
For a half-day dig you may need no more than a clear route and a place to stack spoil. For a bigger job, such as a driveway dig-out, we will agree the plan, the order of work and where the waste goes before the machine is unloaded.

Questions
What size digger fits through my gate?
Our smallest digger and tracked dumpers need around 80cm of clear width. Measure the narrowest point and send us a photo. If it is tighter we will talk through the options.
Do I need to hire a driver?
With us, yes. Our machines come with a CPCS-carded driver. That keeps the work safe and means you do not have to arrange an operator yourself.
Can the digger take the spoil away?
Yes. Muck-away is included in our quotes. Tracked dumpers move spoil to the waste collection, and it is taken off site.
Do you hire machines for trade jobs?
Yes. We work with builders, extension companies and landscapers on groundworks, to your drawings and programme.
