The whole job, not just the base
A lot of people in Sutton, Cheam and Carshalton buy a shed kit, then find that building a proper base is a separate job for someone else. We do both. We dig the ground out, pour the concrete and put the shed up on it, so the floor is flat and the doors hang right.
Kits arrive in all sorts: timber, metal and plastic. We build all three.
- Timber, metal and plastic shed installation
- Concrete base sized to your kit
- Fixing and anchoring the shed to the slab
- Removal of the old shed and its base
- Packaging and offcuts taken away
- Excavation and levelling if the garden slopes
Match the base to the shed
The base should be sized to the building before the concrete is poured. Metal and plastic sheds often come with a fixed footprint and need the base to be bang on that size, while timber sheds are more forgiving. Send us the model name or the manufacturer's spec sheet with your photos and we will work to it.
We pour 100 to 150mm of concrete with A142 mesh on a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, and the exact depth depends on the size and weight of the building.
If you want the shed set a little way off a fence, or on a slight turn to catch the sun, say so before the concrete goes in. Moving a slab afterwards is not an option, while moving a pencil mark on your photo is free. We will also leave the slab slightly larger than the footprint if you want a path edge around the shed.
Gardens in and around Sutton
The borough covers a mix of housing. There are Victorian and Edwardian houses near the centre, plenty of 1930s semis around Cheam, Wallington and Carshalton, and the large interwar estate at St Helier, where gardens are typically modest in size and access is often through the house side or a shared path.
For a small garden, a 0.8 tonne digger and a tracked dumper do the work without churning up your lawn more than they have to. For bigger gardens, we can bring something larger.
Timing and the first week
The base is dug, prepared and poured in a day. Concrete is firm to walk on after 24 to 48 hours. For a heavy shed we recommend waiting about 7 days. For a light kit shed that is not as critical, and we will tell you what we think when we have seen the kit.
If the shed is already delivered, tell us where it is stored. If an old shed needs to go first, we take it down and remove it.
Local practicalities
Sutton's main roads include the A232 and the A217, but most jobs are on residential streets. If a skip or vehicle needs to go on the road, a council permit may be needed, and we will tell you.
We also cover Croydon, Bromley and Merton, and the rest of London and Kent.

Questions
Can you build the shed and the base in one visit?
Usually the base goes in first, then the shed follows once the concrete has set. We plan the sequence with you so the whole job is tidy.
Do you put up metal and plastic sheds as well as timber?
Yes. We build timber, metal and plastic kits, square and level, and fix them down to the slab.
Can you take my old shed away before the new one goes up?
Yes. We take it down, break out the old base if needed and remove everything.
I have already bought the shed. What should I send you?
The manufacturer's name or model, the footprint dimensions and a photo of where it is going and the access to it.
