Taking down what is past it
A lot of the outbuildings in Tunbridge Wells, Southborough and Rusthall have been there for decades: timber sheds that have rotted, old workshops, brick outhouses and garden walls. They are often hemmed in by plants and neighbouring fences.
We take them down by hand or with a machine, break out the old base and load every bit of waste. We check for asbestos before we start on anything that might contain it.
- Sheds, outbuildings and garden walls demolished
- Concrete, stone and brick broken out
- Old bases and hardstanding removed
- New concrete base and shed installation
- Levelling and excavation
- All waste loaded and removed
Period houses and sloping gardens
The town has many Victorian villas and terraces, with plenty of large houses and rows of period properties around the Common and towards Southborough. Many gardens are on a slope, and some have steps, walls or rock outcrops, because sandstone is part of the landscape around the town.
On a slope we level the ground before building, cutting back the high side and compacting the sub-base. If you have an existing wall or steps, tell us and send photos so we can plan around them.
Period houses often have old drainage close to the surface and garden walls that are older than they look. If you know where a drain, soakaway or utility pipe runs, mark it on a photo or tell us. If we hit something unexpected while digging, we stop and talk to you before going on, rather than carrying on and hoping for the best.
Tight access, careful work
Period properties often mean a narrow side passage, a gate and a lot of plants in the way. Our micro digger is 0.8 tonne, and a tracked dumper takes the muck out. If the passage is under 80cm, we look at smaller kit or hand-barrowing.
We take care of paving, gates and borders where we can, and sweep up when the job is done.
What the new base needs
Once the old shed and slab are gone, the new base is dug, prepared and poured in a day on a standard job. We use 100 to 150mm of concrete with A142 mesh on compacted MOT Type 1, and wait 24 to 48 hours before it is walkable.
We can put the new shed up too, timber, metal or plastic, once the concrete has had about 7 days if it is a heavy building.
Price and local notes
Send a photo of the old shed and the access, plus a rough size, to WhatsApp. We reply with a guide price, usually within 30 minutes, and confirm a fixed price after seeing the site. There is no deposit for standard domestic jobs.
The A26, A264 and A21 are the main roads in this part of Kent. If a skip or vehicle needs to go on the road, a council permit may be needed, and we will tell you. We also cover Pembury, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Maidstone.

Questions
Can you remove a rotten shed and take it all away?
Yes. We take it down, break out the base if needed and load the waste for removal.
Do you check for asbestos before demolition?
Yes. We check before starting on old garages and outbuildings, because some older materials can contain it.
My Tunbridge Wells garden is on a slope. Can you still build a base?
Usually yes. We level the ground first, then build the base on a compacted sub-base.
Will you put the new shed up after the base?
Yes. We install timber, metal and plastic sheds on the base we pour.
